SAINTS OF THE DAY
4th - St. Pelagia, Martyr, Emperor Diocletian, chose her to be the wife of one of his sons. Learning that she was a Christian, the son committed suicide; she was then sentenced and died during torture A.D. 288. Venerable Mother, Pelagia, formerly a public sinner, chanced to hear a sermon by St. Nonnus, Bishop of Edessa. Stricken by remorse she did sever penance in a cave on Mt. Olivet. She died about A.D. 457.
5th - St. Irene, Glorious Martyr, daughter of the Emperor Licinius and his wife Licinia, suffered courageously for Christ, and by many miracles thousands were converted to Christianity. She died A.D. 315 in the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great. Venerable father, Nicephorus, Hegumen.
6th - St. and Venerable, Job, the “Patient.” He was “simple and upright, fearing God and avoiding evil.” He likely lived about 1500 B.C.
7th - Commemoration of the appearance of the Sign of the Cross, formed by the stars in the heavens over Jerusalem, extending from Calvary to Mt. Olivet A.D. 346. St. Acacius, Martyr, testified for the Faith A.D. 299, in the reign of Emperor Maximian.
8th - St. John, the Apostle and Evangelist, the beloved of Jesus. He labored much in preaching the Gospel and was alone of the Twelve Apostles who did not forsake the Saviour in the hour of His Passion. He wrote a Gospel supplementary to the three other Gospels, three Epistles and the mysterious Book of the Apocalypse. Having lived 102 years, he died in the reign of the Emperor Trajon. Our venerable father, Arsenius the Great, tutor to the two sons of Theodosius, Emperor, declined all worldly honor, retired in the desert in Lower Egypt. He died at the age of 95 A.D. 450.
9th - Translation of the Venerable Relics of our holy father, Nicholas, Wonderworker, from Myra to Bari (Italy) A.D. 1096, in the reign of Alexis Comnenus, Emperor. St. Isaias, Prophet. He was the First of the Greater Prophets a descendant of the royalty, Son of the prophet Amos and lived 700 B.C. Tradition tells us he was sawn in two by the order of King Manasses of Judea. St. Christopher, Martyr, a convert to Christianity, was put to death for the Faith in the reign of Decius A.D. 250.
10th - St. Simon the Zealot, Apostle, one of the Twelve surnamed the Chanaean. Tradition has it that he was groom at the marriage of Cana of Galilee where Jesus changed water into wine.

ByzanTEEN Rally 2024 - On January 20th, registration for the ByzanTEEN Rally opens. It will be at the University of San Diego from June 27-30. This dynamic gathering of the future of our Church will include 3 keynote speakers (Fr. Chris Zugger, Mother Iliana, and Trent Horn), prayer, social and sport activities, bringing Byzantine Catholic Teens across the country together to walk on the waters of faith in Christ. SUNDAY OF THE MAN BORN BLIND Lord Jesus Christ, you are the light of the world. Grant us eyes to see the beauty of your face, so that we may see everything clearly. We humbly ask that you help your servants to see our vocation, to respond to it and follow it all the days of our lives, so that we may bring healing to this world, we pray you hear and have mercy.
CATECHESIS FOR THE CATECHUMENATE is held every Sunday at 8:30am. Our catechumens will be prepared for baptism through this one-year program. Anyone who wants to learn more or refresh their Byzantine faith is welcome to attend. For the class, download the Ascension app on your phone or computer. MYSTAGOGIA: CATECHESIS FOR THE ENLIGHTENED Adult education continues through continual faith formation each Sunday at 1:00pm. Join us for advanced studies in our spiritual life, Liturgy, theology, patristics and more. For the classes, you can purchase The Divine Liturgy: A Commentary in the Light of the Fathers from our bookstore.
